Boo!

BOO! I am back. We have turned the corner…. on another season! Halloween has always signaled the KICKOFF to the fall/winter holiday season. And I truly love all things orange and festive. These are some fun drinks for Halloween/Harvest season.

We are in for quite a ride this upcoming week – let’s VOTE, stay safe, and HAVE FUN!

l to r: Candy Corn Old Fashioned, Aperol Autumn Harvest, Mr. Howl Cocktail, Bloody Fizz, Tito's Monster Smash

Halloween Drinks

Aperol Autumn Harvest

This is a classic Aperol Spritz with a dash of blood… orange.

Ingredients

· 3 ounces Prosecco

· 2 ounces Aperol

· 1 ounce soda water

· 1 ounce blood orange sparkling water

· Ice

Preparation

· Filled a chilled collins glass ¾ full of ice.

· Pour Prosecco into the glass.

· Add Aperol.

· Top with soda soda and blood orange sparkling soda.

Mr. Howell (or Howl) Halloween Cocktail

This is a great cocktail, and its history is a nod to Mr. Thurston Howell III, yes the guy from that island and the three hour tour. But don’t skip using the “adult” cherries. Save the bright red ones for a Shirley Temple! Enjoy a couple of these and the Minnow may be lost.

Ingredients

· Luxardo Cherries (I found some Stone Wall Kitchen Bada Bing Cherries)

· 2 ounces freshly squeezed lime juice

· 1 ounce real maple syrup

· 2 tablespoons sanding sugar (red, orange or black)

· 3 ounces white rum

· 1 ounce Aperol

Preparation

· Place 2 tablespoons of lime juice in a saucer and the colored sugar in another saucer.

· Dip the rim of a martini glass in the juice and then the sugar. Allow to dry.

· Combine the remaining lime juice, rum, maple syrup, and Aperol in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake until thoroughly chilled.

· Strain and pour into prepared martini glasses.

· Garnish with Luxardo cherries on a toothpick.

· Serve right away.

Tito’s Monster Smash

Ingredients

· 1 ½ ounce Tito’s Handmade Vodka

· ½ ounce simple syrup

· 1 ½ tonic

· 2 ounces lime juice

· 5 red grapes (these should give you the purpley hue – add a dash of food coloring for more effect)

Preparation

· Muddle grapes in a shaker.

· Add vodka, simple syrup, lime and ice.

· Shake vigorously.

· Strain over fresh ice and top with tonic water.

Candy Corn Old Fashion

This is a fun old fashioned and good use for your candy corn! You can buy candy corn syrup, or make you own - while heating your sugar and water for the simple syrup, throw in an handful of left over candy corn and it melts right down – creating a super sweet simple syrup that is quite tasty! Easy peasy.

Ingredients

· 3 dashes of orange bitters

· 1 orange slice

· ½ ounce candy corn simple syrup

· 2 ounces Jack Daniels Whiskey

Preparation

· Muddle bitters, orange and syrup in an old fashioned glass.

· Add ice to top of glass and add whiskey.

· Garnish with 4-5 pieces of candy corn.

Bloody Fizz

For Campari lovers

Ingredients

· Ice

· 2 ounces Campari

· Blood Orange soda

· 1 ounce gin

Preparation

· Fill glass with ice.

· Pour in Campari.

· Top with soda.

· Add gin and stir – serve.
