Keep the Boat Afloat

Here we are in late summer and the world’s shenanigans continue. Schools are starting but mostly from home. Things are still not right. I continue to stick to my rules of sheltering:

· Keep the boat afloat - aka keep your family sane

· Keep cooking healthy foods

· Buy local – go to your farmers market, local grocery, local café

· Plus, support your local craft brewery. Really.

So, on that final note, here is bit of fun facts about South Lake Brewing Company (SLBC) in South Lake Tahoe, California. I love small, entrepreneurial businesses, and this is a good story about coming home and following a passion. This is about Chris and Nicole Smith who met at high school at South Tahoe High and who both went on to attend Cal Poly. While there, Chris worked at Firestone Walker Brewing and found his passion. Chris and Nicole graduated with engineering degrees and a few years later headed home to open their dream business in the spring of 2017. They renovated an old hardware store (6,000 sq ft of space) and built a brewery in South Lake Tahoe. Who doesn’t love that kind of story? Aw, the world feels a little better now.

SLBC has some impressive production in its facility with a 10 barrel brewhouse, five 20 barrel fermentation tanks, and four 10 barrel fermentation tanks. And in the tasting room they have up to 15 (maybe 16?) craft beers on tap. You can bring your dog along (I mean what good brewery doesn‘t have adorable pups around) and taste on site, fill up a growler or a crowler, which is a really BIG can (32 oz) , or pick up a regular 4-pack of 16 oz cans. They distribute on the California side of Tahoe (sigh, poor Nevada) and neighboring areas in Northern California. Their beers are really great – I love the names and they have some smart looking packaging and of course good merch.
