My Big Fat Greek-Inspired Burger

I love Greek food and many of you know that I love to go to the Oakland Greek Festival every May. The food is always amazing and the people who host this festival are the best. It really is a very fun experience and I recommend you all go (or to wherever your local Greek festival is held). This year the Oakland festival will not be in May (sigh) but in October. Here is a burger that is super yummy and offers a chance to sop up delicious tzatziki with your bread of choice.

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb ground lamb

  • 1/2 lb ground chuck

  • 1/4 cup finely chopped mint

  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin

  • kosher salt

  • freshly ground black pepper

  • 4 hamburger buns or pita

  • bowl of Super Simple Ttzatziki (see below)

  • 2 cups chopped romaine lettuce

  • 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese

Preparation

  • Prepare grill to medium high heat.

  • Combine the lamb, beef, mint and cumin in a large bowl and season with salt and pepper. Mix well.

  • Grill the patties, turning once, for about 4 minutes on each side for medium rare.

  • During the last few minutes, heat up the pita (or toast buns) on the grill, cut side down.

  • To assemble the burgers, on each bottom (pita or bun), place lettuce, then a patty. Cover with tzatiki and sprinkle with feta.
