Sheltering Bastard

Another great contribution from my family shelterin’ in South Carolina. The REAL name of this drink is the Suffering Bastard and it has quite a history that goes back to the Shepheard Hotel in 1940s Cairo. I have altered the name to reflect the times and sadly I was out of mint for the final garnish. It is a good one!



Ingredients


  • 1 oz gin

  • 1 oz brandy

  • ½ oz fresh lime juice

  • 2-4 dashes Angostura Bitters

  • 4 oz ginger beer

  • sprig of mint

  • slice of orange


Preparation


Shake everything except ginger beer with ice. Stir in ginger beer. Pour unstrained into a highball glass and garnish with an orange slice and mint sprig.
